Helloooo photomanipulators!
After a bit of ado, we are happy to introduce some new challenges that we hope will inspire some more creativity in our community as well as encourage ALL of us (ourselves included) to learn some new skills and expand our repertoire!

For these challenges, we will require the use of one piece of stock that, while lovely and very useful, might typically be considered "overused," and one new skill or technique.
We know there are a lot of challenges out there already, but here are the goals for ours:

To address concerns of "copying" and "lack of creativity" by challenging people to think more creatively about their art,

To help members of our community learn more and expand their skills by challenging them to learn new techniques, and

To maintain the focus of our community on art, growth, and support.

How does it work?

PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the LegendDaily Deviations, or DDs . . . for some deviants, receiving one is the epitome of awesomesauce in the deviantART world. For others, they are a nice way to show off the work of lesser-known artists. Still others treat them as a special way to bring attention to great art that exemplifies works being done by a particular gallery or community.
Perhaps because there are so many different ways of conceptualizing DDs, there are also many myths and misconceptions. I would like to address some of those myths by responding to the ones most frequently heard. Please note that these opinions are mine and reflect my experiences with the photomanipulation community, but perhaps they will be informative nevertheless.
Myth 1: DDs should always be perfect.
To many of us, the ideal Daily Deviation goes to an artist with amazing talent whose work draws you in and makes you think, "Wow, everyone needs to see this!" A DD should move you, inspire you, and provoke you to think, b

This week Horacio Coppola died. Many will not know the name, but in the Photography world he was pretty awesome. He died age 105, and was famous for taking Black and White photographs of Buenos Aires in the 1930s. But he also photographed normality. Some of his works included egg and twine - quite simply an egg and a piece of twine. Others featured a typewriter, but ultimately he shot normality, the everyday things that people overlooked. He's said to be one of very few photographers who manage to capture the romance, vitality and squalor of a great city. So a legend has died, but somewhere another will rise up through the ranks. Who inspires you? Which historical Artists have provoked you to reach the place where you are now? Or who you aspire to be?

The Anti-Cliche ChallengeDo you see the same stock being used over and over? Do you find that you do the same theme and technique over and over?
No matter how you see a cliche (with the same stock, or continuous style), in the long run, such images can become trite from being overly used. Not that it's a bad thing to have your own particular "style" because it does make it easy to identify your deviations. Still some photomanipulators do change their style and technique now and then to give their gallery a fresh look.
For me, the stock below are examples of stock that have been overly used. Editing or using them in a completely different way would "break" the cliche.

What would you do in an Anti-Cliche deviation?
Would you take overly used theme stock and place them in a different environment and edit them to look completely different?

Stock creation challenge 1 - 'POISON'EDIT The entry categories of beginner, intermediate and advanced no longer run on the Amount of years you have been doing stock but on the amount of technical skill and quality of your entry. You suggest which level you are entering ur entry to and it will be added there or appropriated as needed.

RULES:

This challenge runs for a month. Beginning NOW and ending on the 22nd July midnight EST

You must create stock photos specifically for the challenge.

There are 3 entry levels:
level 1 - BEGINNER
level 2 - INTERMEDIATE
level 3 - ADVANCED

CONTEST
The contest can be from line art to a painting (digital or traditional). You can enter up to three pictures. While you don't have to pick from the list (since they're just suggestions), the drawing must fit a fantasy scenario, person or creature. A hint will be to try to incorporate a scene along with a fantasy character. You can do either evil or good. Also this MUST be original design and artwork (we're avid art fans of fantasy and know a lot of work out there so don't plagiarizer someone). The theme for the contest is "Wings of Love". I've thought really hard about this, and I'm allowing you to make a darker piece for the contest. I figure love can be dark and light too. However, I don't want the pieces TOO dark. I don't want to see someone killing someone or any "real" bloody hearts.

Hi and Welcome to the Out of Place Contest! Have you seen a panda bear exploring the icy region of Antarctica lately? How about that photobombing zebra from your latest trip to the D.C. National Mall? Did you hear about the penguin’s last vacation in Jamaica? I heard he was sipping mai tais on the beach! Well this is your chance to take something and put it in a completely different place than what you would expect!

The Mission Objective: Take at least two different elements and combine them for a completely unexpected result. Whether you’re sending a giraffe to the moon, or letting a scorpion drive a submarine, this should baffle us as much as you can beyond the scope of your imagination!
